What Aro is

Aro is an algorithmic energy trading company. We trade power across Northern Europe with autonomous algorithms that bid, execute, and nominate 24/7 across DK, DE, NL, FR, and the UK. Every minute, our systems read the market, decide, and act without a human in the loop.

The thesis is simple. European power markets are getting faster, more fragmented, and more data-rich. The operators who win are the ones who can iterate fastest. So we are not building one trading strategy. We are building a factory that turns an idea on a whiteboard into a live, capital-allocated algorithm in days, not quarters.

That factory is engineering. It is the data pipeline, the model layer, the execution stack, and the observability that lets a quant trust the system overnight. Without it, none of the rest exists.

The role

We are expanding our engineering team. You will join as a senior engineer with direct ownership over a core part of the platform that runs Aro. This is not a title chase. It is one of the positions with the most leverage in the company.

What you will own:

• Architecture decisions on your part of the trading platform, from data ingest through execution. You make the calls on language, framework, and infrastructure, and you defend them with data.

• The pipeline from "idea on a whiteboard" to "live in production." Today we can do this in a week. The goal is one day, end to end, as the default cadence.

• A platform that trades live capital 24/7. That means observability that catches a problem before the market does, runbooks that work at 03:00, and a release process that does not require heroics.

• Engineering standards as we grow through Series A and into new markets. You help set the bar.

You will sit inside a squad with quant traders, data scientists, and engineers. Their feedback loop is your feedback loop. Their bottlenecks are your bottlenecks.

What we expect

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems. You have shipped, you have been on-call, and you have rolled back at 02:00.

• Strong in at least one of Node.js, C#, Python, or a comparable modern language. We care more about how you reason about systems than which language you reach for first.

• Distributed systems, REST and service-oriented architecture, and cloud (GCP preferred) at a fluent level. Kubernetes in production, not just on a slide.

• Comfort with relational and NoSQL data, performance tuning, and reasoning about latency budgets in milliseconds.

• Observability built into the system from day one, not bolted on after an incident.

• The ability to disagree with a quant on architecture and a trader on execution in the same hour, and have both walk away aligned.

• Willingness to participate in on-call for production support.

Strong plus

• Background in power, gas, or any short-horizon real-time market.

• High-availability, low-latency, real-time data processing experience.

• CI/CD and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions).

• Security and secure-coding fluency.

• A track record of shaping a technical roadmap that others followed.
